Robert’s grandfather Nat King Cole born Nathaniel Adams Cole is an important figure in Jazz history. He was born on March 17th, 1919 in Alabama, USA. Nat King Cole is also a prominent pianist. He picked up the skill of playing the piano at the age of 13. During the swing era, Nat was hailed as one of the top male vocalists. Throughout his career, Nat faced harsh treatment from those within and outside the industry for being a Black person. He was awarded the Grammy in the year 1959 for ‘Midnight Flyer’.
He married his first wife Nadine Robinson at the age of 18. The two divorced later. His second marriage was with the singer, Maria Hawkins. The duo share five children, out of which two are adopted.
Nat King Cole had been an active part of the Civil Rights Movement.
He sadly passed away due to lung cancer on February 15th, 1965.
Robert’s mother is Natalie Cole. She is also the daughter of Nat King Cole and Marie Cole. Her mother Maria Cole, was a Duke Ellington Orchestra singer. Natalie Cole is a singer, songwriter, and actress. She specialized in R&B and Jazz. Natalie was married thrice.
Natalie was born on February 6th, 1950 in Los Angeles, USA. She did her initial schooling at an elite school called Northfield Mount Hermon School and then went on to pursue further studies at The Buckley School. She graduated with a major in Child Psychology from the University of Massachusetts.
She is best known for her song “This Will Be” which won her a Grammy award. Natalie made history by being the first African American woman to win the Grammy for Best New Artist. She is the recipient of 9 Grammy Awards throughout her music career. Natalie was an inspiring mother to her son who considered her to be his role model.
Unfortunately, in the year 2008, Natalie was diagnosed with Hepatitis C and passed away due to the same on December 31, 2015.
Robert Adam Yancy passed away on August 15th, 2017 in Sherman Oaks, California, USA. He died at the age of 39. Shockingly, 18 months right after his mother, Natalie Cole’s death was his passing. His death was due to a sudden heart attack.
